John Kenny 2

Memories continued:

Being House Captain for Beauvale when we won the Athletics Shield for the first time ever (not by my efforts I'm afraid)
Mail-delivery flying across the refectory!
Getting the weed out of the lake one summer and the swans coming up to the refectory windows
The enormous tree (an oak?) that stood in the middle of a field by the lake
The sanctuary lamp in a bowl held by three silver dolphins
Taking my turn in leading the singing without accompaniment
The clack of football and cricket studs on concrete floors as the teams came back from matches
Water fights out of the washroom windows in Mill Lane
Barton buses and Nottingham's red brick railway station
More cheap instant coffee than I care to remember
French and German oral lessons

Extra-curricular activities:

Meeting in the Air Hostess, the local pub and out of bounds to us
A visit to the Tutankhamen exhibition in London - a 3-hour queue, but worth it
Monday afternoon bus trips to Bingham Sports Centre for extra sports
Hamlet at the Nottingham Playhouse - a very modern production!
Doing 'Thought For The Day' on BBC Radio Nottingham
End-of-exam high spirits (literally) - raiding the kitchens after midnight for altar wine (unconsecrated) - I can't bear sweet sherry to this day!
